Space time-index plots for probing dynamical nonstationarity
We propose a simple method to efficiently probe dynamical nonstationarity in observed time series. In a space time-index plot, the density distributions as a function of normalized time-index are V-shaped due to nonstationarity. We show that this method is workable for short data sets and typical examples are illustrated. c © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. PACS: 02.50.+s; 05.45.+b
متن کاملCoping with Nonstationarity in Categorical Time Series
Categorical time series are time sequenced data in which the values at each time point are categories rather than measurements. A categorical time series is considered stationary if the marginal distribution of the data is constant over the time period for which it was gathered and the correlation between successive values is a function only of their distance from each other, and not of their p...
متن کاملTowards Context Modeling in Space and Time
One of the main problems in software development for service robots is to create systems that reliably behave as intended, even though the real field of application and the concrete user requirements are unknown during design time. Consequently, the software controlling service robots has to be aware of its environment and has to adapt its behavior accordingly. A model representing environmenta...
متن کاملNonstationarity in Time Series of State Densities1
This paper proposes a new framework to analyze the nonstationarity in the time series of state densities, representing either cross-sectional or intra-period distributions of some underlying economic variables. We regard each state density as a realization of Hilbertian random variable, and use a functional time series model to fit a given time series of state densities. This allows us to explo...
متن کاملModeling Coastal Vulnerability through Space and Time
Coastal ecosystems experience a wide range of stressors including wave forces, storm surge, sea-level rise, and anthropogenic modification and are thus vulnerable to erosion. Urban coastal ecosystems are especially important due to the large populations these limited ecosystems serve. However, few studies have addressed the issue of urban coastal vulnerability at the landscape scale with spatia...
